Oxfam is supporting refugee women to transform old UNHCR tents from the Za’atari Refugee Camp into fashionable tote bags. The women are working with a Jordanian fashion designer to design the bag, and receive training on sewing techniques. The bags are made in three sizes, and each one uses a different part of the UNHCR tent, which makes them unique. The women have formed a cooperative, and work with German organisation ‘More than Shelters’ to sell the bags in local markets, and internationally. The refugee women also receive a graduate certificate after they complete the training.
