In Australia, 21% of the population or five million people speak a language other than English at home. SBS’s history is rooted in providing engaging information, education and entertainment in many languages to serve Australia’s multicultural, multilingual and Indigenous audiences.
In the last 12 months SBS have scaled and grown their digital services for Australians who speak a language other than English by launching a COVID-19 portal with information in 64 languages, creating up-to-date accurate videos on COVID-19 in 64 languages on SBS On Demand, Facebook and YouTube, built a dedicated website for Chinese audiences, and updated the login process to enable audiences to login in their preferred language.
